Full Confession: One of the reasons why I love the Hero’s Cuties ship so much is not just because they’re adorable, but because they’re an example of a couple that isn’t just a standard cookie-cutter obligatory pair. On Tumblr I keep seeing posts that say “There should be a gay Disney Prince!” and etc, but characters that are based off of orientation usually end up just being a huge stereotype which is the opposite of “progressive” as it further imprints in the minds of children. However, in WIR, Felix is a short, kind of efemminate guy, and Calhoun is a tall, obstinate woman. If this had been based on stereotypes, or if the couple didn’t end up together, people might assume that Felix was gay because he wasn’t masculine, as well as Calhoun for being a lesbian because she had short hair and was the Sergent in a “boys” game. This movie, I’m surprised to say hasn’t erupted enough on Tumblr given the progression of gender acceptance the movie has.
